Laurie Lee

As our Chief Executive, Laurie leads all areas of our work at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, working closely with the executive team and board of Trustees in furthering our mission to build a healthier society. Laurie is also Chief Executive of Impact on Urban Health – our programmatic body of work where we collaborate with businesses, governments and communities to pioneer new ways of addressing urban health inequalities. Laurie stewards the management and investment of our endowment portfolio of close to £1 billion in achieving both a financial return and health impact. He also leads our work in supporting NHS patient and staff care as the charity for Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Laurie brings a wealth of experience in senior leadership roles, including eight years as Chief Executive of CARE International UK, one of the UK’s major humanitarian and global poverty charities, which operates in over 100 countries around the world, responding to emergencies and supporting women’s social, economic and political equality.

Prior to that, he worked in various senior UK Government roles, and for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which works to reduce global health inequality and poverty around the world. As Deputy Director of Policy & Advocacy he changed the way the Foundation partnered with policymakers, so it could achieve change at scale.

He also holds board positions at the British Gas Energy Trust, an independent charity, and Girls First Finance, a fintech social enterprise.
